    What is a psychologist?

Psychologists complete a minimum of 6 years of specialist university training in human behaviour before gaining full registration.

They are registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and are required to undertake ongoing professional development, training, and supervision to maintain that registration.

Lauren is also a member of the Australian Psychology Society (APS).

    Do I need a referral?

No, a referral is not required. You are welcome to contact Lauren to book a self-referred appointment. However, without a referral, you will not be eligible for a Medicare rebate.

To claim a rebate, ask your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) before your first session. Either you or your GP can send the MHCP to Lauren by email.

What happens in the first session?

There is no need to come prepared. Lauren will guide the conversation.

Together you will explore what has been happening in your life, what has led you to reach out, and what you would like to change.

You have full control over what you share and at what pace. Lauren's priority is that you feel safe and comfortable.

By the end of your first session, you and Lauren will have collaboratively agreed on therapeutic goals and an initial plan for working toward them.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies significantly from person to person.

Some clients achieve meaningful change in 6-10 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term work, particularly those with complex, long-standing trauma.

Lauren will discuss this with you at your first session, and will regularly check in throughout your work together to ensure the approach remains effective and on track.

Sessions typically occur weekly or fortnightly at the beginning, with frequency reducing over time as progress is made.

    Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, with a small number of important exceptions.

Confidentiality applies in all circumstances except:

    • If there is risk to your safety or the safety of another person

    • If session notes are subpoenaed by a Court

    • If you have provided consent for Lauren to communicate with another person or organisation on your behalf

At your first session, Lauren will ask for some personal information including your name, contact details, GP consent, and an emergency contact. If you choose not to provide certain information, it may affect Lauren's ability to provide the most appropriate service.
