EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychological treatment that has been used effectively for over 30 years in a variety of international settings and cultures with many different types of psychological distress.

EMDR is a psychotherapy approach developed to help individuals cope with and heal from traumatic experiences. This therapeutic method integrates elements of cognitive behavioural therapy with bilateral stimulation, typically achieved through eye movements, taps, or auditory cues.

The process involves recalling distressing memories while focusing on external stimuli, facilitating the brain's natural processing of the trauma. EMDR aims to alleviate emotional distress, reduce the impact of traumatic memories, and promote adaptive coping mechanisms.

Through guided sessions with a trained therapist, individuals undergoing EMDR often experience a gradual desensitisation to the traumatic memory and restructuring of negative beliefs associated with the event, leading to improved psychological well-being and a sense of empowerment.

EMDR is effective both in person and online.
